CLIP COLLEGE HOUR REPORT #1
Yesterday I went to CLIP College Hour in S112.I listened to three presentations. The first one was diversity; I think the definition of diversity is a commitment to recognizing and appreciating. In sociology and political studies, the term diversity is used to describe political entities with members who have identifiable differences in their cultural backgrounds or lifestyles, and I learned we should not think a person is good or bad depends on their face, skin color, poverty…etc. I think that’s call discrimination.
The second one I think it’s about the Sexual harassment, I think Sexual harassment is intimidation, bullying or coercion of a sexual nature, or the unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors. Psychological abuse, also referred to as emotional abuse or mental abuse, is a form of abuse characterized by a person subjecting or exposing another to behavior that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronic depression, dissociation, anger, or disorder. I learned when we force to Sexual harassment we should say “NO”, call 911 or tell it to your families.
The third topic is about Domestic violence, it’s defined as a pattern of abusive behaviors by one partner against another in an intimate relationship such as marriage, dating, family, or cohabitation. Domestic violence, so defined, has many forms, including physical aggression or assault such as hitting, kicking, biting, shoving…etc. I saw the drama in the video, they were acting a story about the about Domestic violence, and finally the mother told her husband’s father her husband was always hitting her, that’s call domestic violence. The girl found the police to help her, and the police suggested her to call 311, they can help. And because of the girl didn’t get a paper so she was afraid they can’t help her, and she didn’t want many people know that. I learned in this topic is when we have the same situation of the problems like them , just call 311 and talk to your families, don’t be afraid.

CLIP COLLEGE HOUR REPORT #2
Have you ever wanted to get a college degree faster, easier, and with more benefits? You can realize those programs. It is important for student’s future to have a college degree. Queensborough Community College is a college that gives students some programs with benefits. There are three programs we need to talk about Single Stop, ASAP and Career Path. Those are the programs that can help students get benefits.
There is a program that gives students free services. It’s called Single stop. First of all, Free and Quick benefits screening is a free service in Single Stop, and it including SNAP (Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program), Health insurance, children care, housing opportunities and safe link wireless. Secondly, financial counseling is another service in single stop program, and it can provide you with your credit reports, and tell you how to budget your money and assist with your financial goals. The last one is legal assistance. The services include housing, family law, consumer law, immigration and more. If we have any questions, we can go to library building, room 432-A or call 718-631-6347 to ask for help.
Everyone is eager to have a good job that interests you after you graduate. One interesting program is Career Path. Career Path is a program that can help you find jobs when you don’t have a job or you lose your job. After you graduate from college, if you don’t get work, Career Path is an organization that can help you to find jobs. There is some occupational training for you. In addition, if you graduate college and complete your major, but you aren’t interested in your major and you want to choose another career, you also can contact Career Path to get some information about this. If you want to get more information and you are interested in Career Path, you can go www.careerpath.org to know more details.
Another program I learned about was ASAP. ASAP stands for accelerated study in associate programs. ASAP has many benefits for students. For example, it can provide assistance with career counseling. You don’t have to pay the tuition when you take summer or winter courses, and you can get free metro cards during the academic year. There are some requirements when you join ASAP. You must be a NYC resident; you should agree to study full-time. Nursing and early childhood education majors are not eligible. Of course, you can go to www.qcc.cuny.edu/asap or call 718-631-6680 to get more information. If you want to graduate college earlier, ASAP is a program that can help you to do that.
Students can choose the benefits that are suitable for themselves. If you want to know some free services, you can choose the Single Stop program. If you want to know more about jobs, you can choose Career Path. Finally, if you want to know the benefits about the college degrees, you can choose ASAP. Those are the programs that can help us to get some information and more benefits in student’s life.
